Overview
A carsharing service where signing up was easy — and driving away was not.
Getmancar operates across Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. Users find a car on the map, unlock it in the app, and pay per minute, hour or day — no paperwork, no keys. The sign-up funnel worked. The first trip did not.
The problem
Research
We rode the cars ourselves.
Alongside user interviews and a competitor teardown, we ran the real flow end to end — sign-up, verification, unlocking, driving. The key insight: users weren't dropping off for lack of intent. The app simply never gave them a reason to stay.
01 — Tariff selection
Tariff selection as a separate step
Users saw all tariff information dumped onto the car card — prices, conditions, deposits — with no way to understand which tariff made sense for their trip. Confusion led to drop-off.
Before
After
Hypothesis
If we separate tariff selection into its own step and let users calculate the cost based on their destination, more users will feel confident enough to book their first trip.
Simplified tariff selection
- Removed excessive information from car cards
- Moved tariff choice into a dedicated step
- Displayed full tariff details on a separate screen
Trip cost estimation for better decision-making
- Introduced the “Calculate your trip” feature
- Provided upfront pricing based on route and distance
Metrics we’d track First-ride conversion · Tariff selection rate · Drop-off at tariff selection
02 — Verification
Verification after car selection
The flow forced verification right after sign-up, interrupting users before they could start a trip. Unclear timing and next steps drained motivation — and users left.
Hypothesis
If we move verification after users choose a car and a tariff, and make the process more transparent with clear feedback and expectations, more users will feel motivated to complete verification and proceed to their first trip.
Verification triggered after car selection
- Sign-in appears after the user selects a car and tariff
- Users reach verification with clear intent to start a trip
- Reduced drop-off at the identity verification step
Streamlined document upload flow
- Licence scan with clear progress indication
- Car reserved during document review — no risk of losing the booking
- Motion design used to reduce perceived wait time
Metrics we’d track Verification completion rate · First-ride conversion · Drop-off during verification
03 — Car availability
Solving the “no cars nearby” problem
Almost half of verified users never start a first trip because there is no car near them. Many drop off and switch to a competitor. At this exact moment, the product left them with nothing to do.
Hypothesis
If we proactively notify users when a car becomes available nearby, we can increase return rate and drive more first and repeat bookings.
Metrics we’d track Push opt-in rate · Return rate · First-ride conversion
Team project — three designers shared research, hypotheses and UX/UI across the three flows above. The redesign was delivered as a validated concept, so the metrics listed are the ones we defined to measure it, not results achieved in production.
